Cannabis classification.

This has got to be one of the stupidest debates and news stories I've ever come across. Some much space so much money, so much time wasted on what classification weed should be.
The government spending money on the first report into it by David Blunkett, Then even more money spent on it by Charles Clarke. Why? What difference does the classification of a Cannabis make. The already wide use of Cannabis isn't going to change because it's a B or C.
The reason given was confusion. The change had caused confusion in the public. What? From what I can tell the only people who are confused on this whole issue is the government. It made absolutely no difference to the public. Half the people who smoke weed won't have even known it's classification before the change and still won't know now and the other half just won't really care.
research into the drugs affects are needed I'll agree with that and I'm not saying the Cannabis is harmless but it's my view that while the we can watch some one drink them selves to death or smoke them selves to death and all while not breaking the law, we all can't go get a little stoned.
While some thing like alcohol is permitted by the government then attitudes towards weed are going to be hard to change. People see the damage Alcohol does to people every day. We see the damage caused by alcohol to property and each other yet these people are being influenced by a legal drug. A drug that's more addictive and has more side effects than weed.
The whole debate is pointless. People will smoke weed and no matter what classification it is they still will.

its a very sticky subject. However I like the slogan "man created beer, god created weed. Who do you trust?"
